The historic market town of Newark and the district of Sherwood have a wealth of fascinating places to visit. The highly regarded Kings Marina itself is situated just off the River Trent, only a five minute walk from the splendid town centre with its imposing 12th Century Castle, civil war connections and one of the finest Georgian cobbled market squares in the UK.
It is a town steeped in history with its dramatic castle and two museums. Oliver Cromwell fought battles against the Royalists just outside Newark and King John was poisoned and died at the Castle.
However, the District's most famous inhabitant was, of course, Robin Hood. His home was of course, the world famous Sherwood Forest. There are many reminders of his presence throughout the District.
